Online Catalogue:BROWSE BY COUNTRY AND REGION:SOUTHERN AFRICA:Economics
Collection that argues that for more than three centuries, Southern Africa has hosted some of the worlds most intense contests between capitalism and non-capitalist social forms, with capital (in mining, agriculture, industry and services) taking full advantage of slavery, colonialism, neo-colonialism, apartheid and neo-liberalism to extend its grip. The result has been a continual primitive accumulation in which capitals reach superexploits women, indigenous people, natural environments, workers and now consumers. An attempt to revive the political economic traditions that made South and Southern Africa amongst the most important laboratories for anti-capitalist analysis and praxis. 211pp, SOUTH AFRICA. CENTRE FOR CIVIL SOCIETY.

This second volume of a two volume monograph on money laundering in the SADC region begins with an examination of the capacity of the financial and commercial services sectors in Namibia to detect, prevent or assist in the prosecution of money laundering crimes. Chapter 2 examines the measures adopted to address the problem of money laundering and the financing of terrorism in Tanzania. Chapter 3 expresses the hope that when Uganda eventually passes an anti money laundering law, the policies and procedures taking shape under the umbrella of the guidelines will be carried forward. The final chapter uses South Africa s Financial Intelligence Centre Act, (38/2000), as a benchmark against which to measure the adequacy of existing and proposed measures against money laundering in Zimbabwe.
