The Africa Book Centre Reading Group
The Africa Book Centre Reading Group is a space for the discussion and appreciation of African fiction and non-fiction. Held in in the Progresso Coffee shop in Tomas Neal's Centre, Covent Garden (downstairs in the mall) http://www.progreso.org.uk/shop-thomasNeals.html we meet up once a month to discuss the chosen title. Our object is to read both famous and less well-known books with the aim of promoting awareness of the continent's rich and varied literatures. Where appropriate, we will read an English translation of French, Arabic and Portuguese writing.
We welcome both regular members and those who wish to attend individual sessions.
A email is sent out once a month with news and information about the reading group. If you would like to receive this information, please contact us at the address below. This address can also be used if you wish to be taken off the email list.
There is no obligation to buy the titles from us. If you can find the book second-hand, in a library, or if you already own a copy, please bring that along. However, we do offer a 20% discount on the chosen book of the month for those who plan to attend the meeting. When purchased over the website, simply quote " reading group title" in the remarks field and we will honour the discount when your order is processed.
After each discussion, a write up is posted on the website. We will also post comments readers would like to share about the books discussed.
Please click on the links to access the notes of each discussion.
Happy reading!
